Handmade RYKOM (RYCOM) military government report using 8x10 photos for pages and mimeographed text with photos glued to the pages. Low quantities were probably produced due to the labor intense method of making and assembling the reports.
This report details the major events for the first year of US Army Military Government control, which shifted from the US Navy to the US Army on 1 July 1946.
The RYKOM Military government was established to administer to the needs of the Okinawan civilian population that had been devastated during the war. It provided the basis for providing food, shelter, medical care, education and all other necessities to get the population back on its feet after the effects of the war.
This is one of 3 different reports from the estate of Lieutenant Colonel Ernest F Power Sr. Retired. He joined the Army as a private at the age of 34, rose to Capt in WWII. Received four bronze stars from the European Theatre, was in the 8th Army Air Corps, on Okinawa 1947 - 1949 and retired in the 1960s. It is believed that he was involved in the production of the 3 Army reports from his estate.
